A temporary handicap placard in Louisiana is a red, removable permit issued to individuals with short-term disabilities. It allows the user to park in designated accessible parking spaces while recovering from a temporary medical condition.

Individuals recovering from surgeries, injuries, or short-term medical conditions that affect mobility may qualify. A licensed medical professional must certify the condition using the proper state form.

Temporary placards are valid for up to one year from the date of issuance. If the condition persists beyond that time, a new application and updated medical certification are required.

To apply, you must complete the Louisiana OMV Disabled Parking Affidavit (Form DPSMV 1966), have it certified by a licensed healthcare provider, and submit it with a copy of your photo ID. Title Authority can help process the application for you.

There is no charge for a temporary handicap placard when applying through the Louisiana OMV. A small processing fee may apply if you use a third-party service like Title Authority to handle the paperwork.
